Bhikkhu Bodhi has accepted our invitation to come to MBS for a visit.
This is an extremely rare opportunity. Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi is a familiar teacher to many of us. He is probably one of the most well-known western Buddhism scholars. His books have been our Agama class material for several years now. We encourage you to come and learn from such a renowned teacher.
Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi will provide an overview of the four major collections in Sutta Pitaka, i.e., Samyutta Nikaya, Majjhima Nikaya, Digha Nikaya, and Angattara Nikaya, include the history of the collections, the overall structure and the key content of the teachings, as well as the differences. In addition, the venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi will discuss the differences between the Chinese translations of the Agamas and the Pali-Nikayas. It is an extremely rare opportunity for students to meet venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi in person and receive his teachings after many years of studying and reading his books. Part of the lecture, The teacher will also host a Question and Answer session after his teaching. Here is a brief bio on Ven Bhikkhu Bodhi:
Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Buddhist monk, originally from New York City. In late 1972, he traveled to Sri Lanka, where he received monastic ordination. He lived for twenty-four years in Asia, primarily in Sri Lanka. He was the editor for the Buddhist Publication Society in Kandy from 1984 until 2002, and he has translated numerous texts from the Pali Canon into English, among them the Samyutta Nikaya (Connected Discourses of the Buddha). In 2008, he helped to establish Buddhist Global Relief,
an organization dedicated to bringing about greater preparedness at the local level to meet Global poverty and disaster situations. He resides at Chuang Yen Monastery in upstate New York.
