</textContent>

It has only been seven years since Venerable Robina Courtin, a Tibetan Buddhist nun and teacher, responded to a letter from a California prison inmate seeking advice about following the Buddhist path. She responded and the project was born. Since then, thousands of prisoners have written to Liberation Prison Project.

LPP offers free Buddhist books, prayers and practice booklets, practice items, MANDALA subscriptions and video and audio tapes of teachings to over 3,500 incarcerated individuals and Buddhist study groups in over 500 prisons in the United States. Ven. Robina, Ven. Kathie Losang, Ven. Losang Tenzin, Ven. Monlam and other sangha volunteers write to and visit prisoners, giving dharma teachings and offering advice about their practices. LPP provides support for prison chaplains and education officers and has provided prison libraries with some 10,000 books, audio and video tapes. LPP also has branches in Australia, New Zealand and England and provides its services to prisoners in many other countries.

Funded by the generous donations of its supporters, LPP continues to grow rapidly, bringing the light of dharma to many grateful and precious human beings and helping them to transform their minds and their lives.</textContent>

<textContent style="font-size:0.9em; line-height:1.2em;">"I am so pleased with Liberation Prison Project. The materials that you have sent me in the past have been such big help to me. I would like to just take a moment to explain a little bit about myself. I was a drug user who was arrested for conspiracy and was given a sentence of four and a half years in prison.

"I also suffered from bipolar depression, and up until recently had been heavily medicated. But thanks to the books on meditation and the teachings of the Dharma, I have been able to better myself in ways that I thought I would never be able to do. I no longer take medication for depression since I am no longer expressed. I no longer bite my fingernails from being so nervous all the time. Also resulting from me being more relaxed and in control of myself, it has had the most positive affect on my family.

I want to thank you and the Prison Project, my prayers to you and your work."

"Thank you for the advice you sent to me about depression and the letter from Lama Zopa Rinpoche. It was very good. I am amazed how open and giving the people of the Buddhist way are. I also want to thank you for being kind enough to write me. I guess I just need a spiritual friend who can help me out on the path."

"I have come a long way in life by being a Buddhist, because I used to hurt everyone and everything, but now I have found love for them and myself as well, and I'm ready to live a peaceful life now and to help others."</textContent>
