Venerable Sayadaw U Kavinda

Venerable Sayadaw U Kavinda has guided Vipassana retreats at MLA since 2007.
Ordained in 1986 in Myanmar, Sayadaw U Kavainda earned the government Dhammacariya degree in 1993, placing 11th nationwide among monks and novices that year. He spent the next four years attending the World Buddhist Meditation Institute in Yangon, where he studied English. Starting in 1998, he studied for another four years, earning a Ph.D. in Comparative Religions from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi, India.

U Kavainda returned to Myanmar in 2003 and came to Hse Main Gon Forest Center for four months of intensive vipassana meditation practice. In December 2003, following his retreat, he was asked by Ovadcariya Sayadaw U Panditabhivamsa to begin instructing yogis and teaching classes to children. Since February 2006, he has been teaching Dhamma and vipassana meditation at Tathagata Meditation Center in San Jose, California.
